Many of us enjoy shopping whether it’s for necessities or simply because we want to. While shopping, we don’t want to completely break the bank either, so here are a few money saving tips that have been helpful for me.
1. Carry cash and leave your debit/credit card at home.
If you carry cash with you, you can only spend what you brought and nothing more.
2. Bring paper and a pen/pencil with you to jot down prices as you are placing items in your cart.
You’ll have a much better idea of what you are spending so you aren’t surprised when you get to the check out counter. Remember to round up to include the price of tax. Rounding up will get you closer to what the total will be.
3. Think of how long you had to work to purchase the item.
You might give more thought to what you are spending your money on if you think through the amount of hours you worked to buy it. For example: Suzie makes $10 an hour at a local hardware store. Suzie wants to purchase a pair of shoes that cost $100. Suzie would have to work 11 hours to cover the cost of the shoes plus the tax.
4. Bring a penny pinching friend.
You preferably want to bring a friend that is reminiscent of Dikembe Mutombo.
5. Go window shopping.
Window shopping is great because it gives you chance to see how much things cost in different places. Over time, you’ll began to figure out how much you are willing to pay for any given item and the best time to purchase things.
Happy Shopping!
